Our Pastor: Rev. Hyo Sun Oh
Rev. Hyo Sun Oh is a full elder of the Northern Illinois Conference of The United Methodist Church. She served Sheridan and Norway United Methodist churches as her first two-point charge appointment from 2010-2016 and served Lemont United Methodist Church from 2016-2021. Currently, she has been serving Roselle UMC since July 1st, 2021.
s oof. Hyo Sun was born in South Korea and grew up in a Methodist family which has run for five generations deep. She felt God’s calling into ministry as a teenager and attended Seminary and Graduate School in S. Korea. She served three local Korean Methodist churches focusing on children, youth, young adults, new member ministries as well as, church administration since 1990. Hyo Sun also earned B.A. in English and secondary education from Araulo University in the Philippines while serving the Filipino Methodist congregation as a missionary. She came to the U.S. in 2007 to follow God’s calling into the ordained ministry in The United Methodist Church and earned a Master of Divinity from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in 2010. She completed M.Div Plus Program in Church Leadership at Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University for Nonprofit Management in 2013; the Institute of Congregational Development of NIC in 2015; Financial Leadership Series for Churches in 2022 at Garrett-ETS. She has been serving the Board of Ordained Ministry (BOM) of NIC since 2016.
Rev. Oh is passionate about proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ to all God’s children since she felt welcome, acceptance, and love in The United Methodist Church. Her strengths in ministry has shown in the areas of worship, Pastoral care, hospitality and generosity. She is also committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ through all aspects of the church’s ministry and mission. Rev. Oh is married to Seung Woo Lee. They both enjoy gardening, sharing produce with friends and neighbors, and cooking Korean Kimchi.

Christine Wachna has been our Office Administrator for Roselle UMC since 2017. She came to us with over 20 years of Executive Assistant experience for the Bishop’s Office of the Western Diocese of the Polish National Catholic Church. Chris and her husband Marty now live in Northwest Indiana where she is very active in her church life at St. Michael the Archangel within the choir, participates in worship as a lector & cantor, leads their Ladies Society, heads up the Prayer Craft Ministry as well as assists in the Youth Ministry. Her love of God and willingness to serve are evident in how she takes care of our Church Office’s day-to-day operations and assists with our membership in any way possible.

Emeritus of Music Director & Accompanist,
Karen Mazza is our Director of Music, organist, accompanist for the choir, director of the bell choir and former director of Joyful Noise. As Director of music, she oversees the administrative duties of the music groups. Karen and her late husband, Don, came to work in this church in 1983. Karen has a B.S. in education, and a M.A. in piano performance. She has 80 hours beyond her masters in various subjects including music administration. She spent 34 years teaching music in the public schools, as well as serving as a Fine Arts consultant and clinician. In 2005, she became a National Certified Master Teacher. Karen currently studies piano and has a duet partner. The two or them have given 3 two piano concerts at our church. They will be performing again in the future. Karen has been a church organist for over 53 years. She says “ I have been given so many opportunities and talents from God, and it is my pleasure to use those talents to bring Glory to His name and enrichment to our services.”

Chancel Choir Director
Holly McKee has been the Director of both our Chancel Choir (adults) since 2002, and director of the Praise Group (teens) here at RUMC since 1992. She holds a degree in Music Education, over 40 years experience in teaching singing either in the classroom or as a private vocal instructor. In addition, Mrs. McKee has toured the world as a professional singer, appearing throughout the years on numerous television shows and commercials. She also sings with our Worship Team Band. Mrs. McKee’s great love of the Lord and her vast knowledge of all styles of singing have provided our congregation with a wonderful variety of choral music that is both inspirational and enthusiastically presented. She is committed to spreading God’s word through music.

Pianist Leah Kang is a musician of diverse interests who received degrees in biology and public health at UCLA prior to pursuing professional studies in music. She has been featured as a soloist with the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra, Tehachapi Symphony Orchestra, and the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra, and was awarded prizes in the International Siegfried Weishaupt Piano Competition and the American Prize Competition for Piano Performance (professional division). Her performances have been broadcast on SWR2 of Germany and WFMT in Chicago. Recent engagements include appearances in the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts series in Chicago, Les Dimanches Musicaux in Paris, Epiphany Tuesday Concert Series in Washington D.C., Sunset Music and Arts Concert Series in San Francisco and the Stoughton Opera House.
Equally passionate about teaching, Leah served on the music faculties of Antelope Valley College and Citrus College, as Associate Instructor of Music Theory at Indiana University Bloomington, and a piano instructor for the School of Music and Division of Continuing Studies at UW-Madison. As a two-time recipient of the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) research fellowship, Leah spent her dissertation years as a visiting scholar at the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn. Her research explored arrangements of Beethoven’s works as created by his close contemporaries. She premiered rare chamber music arrangements of Beethoven’s overtures in the US and presented aspects of her research at international conferences such as “Beethoven-Perspektiven” (Beethoven-Haus, Bonn, Germany), “Beethoven 2020: Analytical and Performative Perspectives” (Dutch-Flemish Society for Music Theory, Amsterdam, Netherlands), and the World Piano Conference (Novi Sad, Serbia). Current interests involving pioneering French women composers from the early twentieth century have been supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council Agency and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
Leah earned her Master of Music and Diploma in Piano Performance from Indiana University Bloomington and her Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

With 15 years in the film and video industry, Nick brings a lifelong love of film and television to Roselle united Methodist Church. A graduate of Columbia College Chicago, Nick has worked in several facets of the film industry. After starting his first production company at 22, Nick moved on to work in post-production as a composer, editor, cinematographer, and producer. Nick’s works have premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, American Film Market, and on network television. After 10 years in Los Angeles, both as a freelancer and media producer at Universal Media, Nick returned to Roselle where he works as an editor and videographer. Nick is happy to call Roselle United Methodist Church home.
